The goal was to solve the problems with the old material feed system, make optimal use of the high-quality sensor technology, and maximize both sorting quality and throughput.

The ActiveFEED replaces the previous material feeder.
Despite modern sensor technology, the existing feeding system slowed down the entire line. The material flow was anything but consistent—with noticeable consequences for quality, effort, and equipment availability. It became clear that the performance of sensor sorting depends directly on the material feed. Every day, attempts were made to manually control the throughput and prevent blockages, underfeeding, and overfeeding.
The feed system thus became the limiting factor for the entire sorting line.

The SPALECK ActiveFEED is designed to maintain a stable target throughput once it has been set—even under varying material conditions. As a result, the sensor-based sorting system receives exactly the material flow for which it is designed.
Before ActiveFEED was installed at Stena, SPALECK tested the solution at its own TestCenter—using original material from Halmstad. This made it possible to accurately assess performance and parameters in advance.
